# How Workers Clock In and Out Using BreakPoint Wearables

> Workers clock in and out by tapping their BreakPoint wearable. Learn how to configure clock-in zones, review attendance logs, and correct time entries.

The BreakPoint wearable turns clock-in from a chore into a single tap. When a worker arrives at their shift, they tap their device at the clock-in zone near the facility entrance. The wearable confirms the event instantly with a haptic buzz and an LED flash, and the Console marks the worker as clocked in within seconds. Clock-out works the same way at shift end. Because every tap is validated against a configured clock-in zone, location-based fraud is prevented by design — the system only accepts taps made within the designated entry area.

## The Worker Experience

Workers do not need to open an app or remember a PIN. The entire clock-in sequence takes under three seconds:

1. Walk into the clock-in zone near the facility entrance.
2. Tap the wearable device face once with two fingers.
3. Feel a short haptic buzz and see a green LED flash — the tap is confirmed.
4. The Console immediately reflects "Clocked In" on the live attendance board.

Clock-out follows the same gesture at shift end. The wearable produces a different feedback pattern (see the table below) so workers always know which event was recorded.

### Wearable Feedback Patterns

| Event                           | LED Color | Haptic Pattern          | Meaning                                    |
| ------------------------------- | --------- | ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| Clock-in confirmed              | Green     | Single short buzz       | Shift started successfully                 |
| Break started | Blue | Double short buzz | Break timer running |
| Break ended / returned to shift | Green | Double short buzz | Back on the clock |
| Clock-out confirmed             | White     | Single long buzz        | Shift closed successfully                  |
| Tap rejected (outside zone) | Red | Three rapid buzzes | Location not valid — tap again inside zone |
| Low battery warning | Amber | Single buzz + LED pulse | Charge device before end of shift |

## Configuring Clock-In Zones

A clock-in zone is a defined geographic boundary — typically placed at a facility entrance — that authorizes tap events made within it. Workers who tap outside any valid zone trigger an error event instead of a confirmed clock-in, and the supervisor receives an alert.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Zone Management">
    In the BreakPoint Console, navigate to **Settings → Zones**. Click **Create Zone** to open the zone editor.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Draw the Zone Boundary">
    Use the map editor to draw the zone perimeter. For most entrance configurations, a radius of 10–20 meters around the entry point is sufficient. Adjust for wide loading docks or multi-door entrances.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the Zone Type">
    In the **Zone Type** dropdown, select **Clock-In Zone**. This designates the area as valid for clock-in and clock-out tap events.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name and Assign the Zone">
    Give the zone a descriptive name (for example, "Main Entrance" or "Dock B Entry"). Assign it to the relevant facility or department so it appears correctly on the workforce map.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Link to Shifts">
    Under **Shift Assignments**, select the shifts that should recognize this zone. Workers on unassigned shifts will not receive clock-in confirmation from this zone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and Test">
    Click **Save Zone**. Walk a test device through the boundary and confirm the Console logs a valid tap event. Adjust the boundary if the edge cases are too tight or too loose.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Place clock-in zones at every active facility entrance — not just the main door. Workers using side entrances or dock access points need a valid zone nearby or they will generate false rejection alerts on every shift.
</Tip>

## What Happens When a Worker Taps Outside a Zone

If a worker taps their wearable outside the boundary of any configured clock-in zone, the following sequence occurs:

* The wearable produces a red LED flash and three rapid haptic buzzes, indicating a rejected tap.
* The Console logs an **Out-of-Zone Tap** event under the worker's attendance record.
* The worker's assigned supervisor receives an alert in the Console and, if enabled, a push notification.
* The worker's status does **not** change — they remain in their previous state (for example, "Not Yet Arrived") until a valid tap is recorded.

The worker should move inside the zone boundary and tap again. If the zone boundary appears to be causing legitimate taps to fail — for example, workers crowding near the entrance — review the zone radius in **Settings → Zones** and widen it as needed.

## Viewing the Live Attendance Board

The Console's **Attendance Board** gives supervisors a real-time snapshot of the entire shift workforce. To open it, navigate to **TimeKeeper → Attendance Board**.

The board shows each scheduled worker in one of four states:

| Status          | Meaning                                                     |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Expected** | Shift has not started yet — worker is not late |
| **Clocked In** | Worker tapped in successfully and is on the clock |
| **On Break** | Worker entered a Break Area zone and break timer is running |
| **Late** | Shift start time has passed and no clock-in is recorded |
| **Clocked Out** | Worker has tapped out — shift record is closed |
| **Absent** | Shift ended with no clock-in recorded — flagged for review |

Click any worker's row to open their detailed shift timeline, including all tap events, zone transitions, and any alerts generated during the shift.

## Manual Time Entry Corrections

When a worker forgets to tap — at shift start, after a break, or at clock-out — the raw attendance record will be incomplete. Supervisors with the **Attendance Manager** role can correct time entries directly in the Console.

To add or edit a time entry:

1. Navigate to **TimeKeeper → Attendance Board** and click the affected worker's name.
2. On the worker's shift timeline, click **Edit Time Entry** next to the gap or incorrect timestamp.
3. Enter the correct clock-in, clock-out, or break time in the time picker.
4. In the **Reason** field, enter a clear explanation for the correction (for example, "Worker reported wearable battery was dead at shift start — verified with locker room log").
5. Click **Save Correction**. The change is applied to the attendance record and flagged with an edit indicator.

<Note>
  Every manual correction is permanently recorded in the audit log with the correcting supervisor's name, timestamp, and reason note. This trail is visible in **TimeKeeper → Audit Log** and is included in exported attendance reports.
</Note>

## Exporting Attendance Data

To export attendance records for payroll processing:

1. Navigate to **TimeKeeper → Reports → Attendance Export**.
2. Select the date range, department(s), and shift(s) you want to include.
3. Choose your export format — **CSV** for direct payroll platform import or **PDF** for printed records.
4. Click **Export**. The file downloads immediately or is sent to your registered email for large date ranges.

The export includes each worker's name, employee ID, shift date, clock-in time, clock-out time, total hours worked, break durations, overtime hours flagged, and any manual correction indicators.
